King Zumbi, also known as Zumbi dos Palmares, was a Brazilian of Kongo/Ngola origin with Islamic background and a quilombola leader, being one of the pioneers of resistance to slavery of Africans by the Portuguese in Brazil
This book primarily focuses on the life and times of Zumbi dos Palmares. King Zumbi pronounced “Zoom-bee” was a hero, freedom fighter and one of the first resistance to slavery in Brazil. He was the last leader of the ‘Quilombo dos Palmares’, which was a city located in the North-East of Brazil.
King Zumbi was born in 1655.It is believed that he is a descendant of the great Imbangala warriors of Angola.
At a young age King Zumbi was a great war strategist. He was known for his strength, bravery, skilfulness and expertise on the battlefield. This all made him a respected military leader.
King Zumbi fought for the independence of his people. Today, he is remembered in Brazilian culture as a powerful symbol of freedom.
